Greenwich CIO Executive Leadership Summit on November 10. If you use a standard XLR cable you'll lose a lot of signal, and get mono only.WESTPORT, Conn., Nov. What you need to do is get an XLR lead, cut one end off, and rewire it to twin phono, or twin heaphone plugs (mono) as per the pin -out explained by EventTech. If you aren't going to use the XLR standard, why use the plug? Only Mike knows that Either way it would have made more sense for Mike (Pyrosure) to put twin phono sockets, or a 3.5mm headphone jack on the firing desk rather than XLR socket. When feeding a small mixer and amp for pyro shows, the Pyrosure way is fine - you don't need the balancing etc. XLR is typically mono, and balanced (to clean up interferece in "noisy" stage/PA environments). You could also put a phono to 3.5mm jack adapter on the end and plug it into a computer line-in, etc. When you plug these two connectors into any mixing desk (you need one of these with PA, and they cost pennies) it works perfectly. They supply a lead that has an XLR 3 pin connector on one end (for your firing desk) and two phono plugs on the other end (white and red, - left and right audio - standard hi-fi stuff). I'm no expert, but I know that the Pyrosure "XLR" to stereo phono lead works fine into a mixer, but it is NOT and XLR cable, it just uses an XLR connector. If your XLR cable is not a "pyrosure one" then it will be wrong for your system.
